A place for Facebook
Myspace and Facebook, in a joint announcement, told the world that you can now log into Myspace using your Facebook credentials. Existing members can link their Myspace account to Facebook.
It's an interesting, if not unexpected, development in my opinion. I have Myspace. I don't use it. Since Facebook become an ever greater presence in the social media world, Myspace (and indeed my Myspace) fell away from my interest like a child's puppy in February*.
This coalition between the two companies has two significant factors to it. Firstly, it signifies that the admission by the guys at Myspace that Facebook is the place to be. Number one, if you like. Myspace can't beat them, so why not use them?
Which brings me to the second point. In the announcement Myspace state that they'll be adding "Like" buttons on their pages. This will mean their content will start popping up in your newsfeed when your friends like a band, tv show or who/what ever now resides on Myspace.
It's a bold move in my opinion, but at the very least should boost traffic to Myspace, while also getting them a few more members, or in my case, people returning to their old hang out. I feel almost nostalgic enough to go and log in now. Almost.
